Niv Fichman will share his thoughts on international coproductions later this year, part of the Trans Atlantic Partners conference in Halifax and Berlin. The conference, a joint effort by Germany’s Erich Pommer Institut and Strategic Partners, the industry-aimed half of the Atlantic Film Festival, said Wednesday that the Passchendaele producer has signed on as an instructor.
‘Trans Atlantic co-productions are vital to the future of financing films in a very difficult economic environment,’ said Fichman in a statement. ‘It’s my hope that by learning from our experiences in the past, we can streamline existing financing structures, and create new production models for the future.’
Fichman has a knack for pulling together international copros, including Fernando Meirelles’ recent adaptation of Blindness — a three-way copro by Canada, Japan and Brazil — and 2007’s Silk, which included France, Italy and the U.K. Organizers say Fichman will present an in-depth analysis of Silk at TAP.
The two-part program will run over a week in Berlin in June before moving to Halifax in September.
