Empire Theatres has announced plans to increase its 3D screen count, and, like Cineplex, will have the technology installed in time for Disney’s Feb. 27 release of Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience.
The Halifax-based exhibitor will grow its 3D screens from 18 to 22, with the additional upgrades being done at locations in Nova Scotia, including Sydney, Halifax and Dartmouth.
The anticipated Jonas Brothers follows last year’s Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour, which generated $65 million for Disney at the North American box office. Cineplex recently announced it will also boost its 3D capabilities ahead of the release.
‘The installation of enhanced digital technology coupled with this exciting film event will continue to wow movie fans in the metro Halifax and Sydney markets,’ commented Empire VP of media and studio relations Dean Leland, in a release.
Empire owns 52 theaters, with 386 screens across Canada.
