CFTPA milestones

1948 Founded as the Association of Motion Picture Producers and Laboratories of Canada, the original non-profit association was created before the arrival of television and represented film producers at both the production and post-production levels of the then-fledgling industry

1974 AMPPLC changes its name to the Canadian Film and Television Association, reflecting growth of the television side of the business.

1984 The Canadian Association of Motion Picture Producers merges its membership with the CFTA (for tax purposes, the current incarnation of the CFTPA uses 1984 as its federal incorporation date)

1988 The Canadian Television Program Distributors’ Association merges its membership with the CFTA

1990 The Association of Canadian Film and Television Producers merges its membership with the CFTA; the CFTA becomes the Canadian Film and Television Production Association

1990s The CFTPA launches the Canadian Retransmission Collective (1990), the Educational Rights Collective of Canada (1998) and the Producers Audiovisual Collective of Canada (1999)

2001 Adds new media production to its representation within the independent sector
