Toronto-based distributor Mongrel Media has acquired Canadian rights to Abdellatif Kechiche’s La vie d’Adele – Chapitre 1 & 2 (Blue is the Warmest Colour) and Paolo Sorrentino’s La Grande Bellezza (The Great Beauty).
Kechiche’s film tells the love story between two girls, played by Léa Seydoux and Adèle Exarchopoulos. La vie d’Adele, written by Kechiche and Ghalya Lacroix, is inspired by Julie Maroh’s comic book Le bleu est une couleur chaude. The film is having its world premiere in competition in Cannes on May 23.
Sorrentino’s La Grande Bellezza is a portrait of contemporary Rome through the story of an aging writer recollecting his youth. The film, which will have its world premiere on May 21 in Cannes, stars Tony Servillo, with Carlo Verdone and Sabrina Ferilli. Sorrentino and Umberto Contarello wrote the script, based on a story by Sorrentino.
Mongrel plans a fall 2013 release for La Grande Bellezza, and a 2014 release for La vie d’Adele.
