A slew of Canadian TV and digital projects have netted nominations in the 2013 Banff World Media Festival’s Rockies awards competition.
Muse Entertainment’s Bomb Girls is the lone Canadian show competing in the continuing series category, up against U.S. series The Big C, The Following and House of Cards.
And new City comedy, Seed, from Force Four Entertainment, goes head-to-head against NBC’s Community, U.K. series Peep Show and Belgium/Netherlands series Quiz Me Quick.
Degrassi and Heartland both netted nominations in the youth fiction category, along with Germany’s Baron Muenchhausen and Mimoun from the Netherlands.
Elsewhere, Carpe Diem Film & TV’s L’automne de Pougne (Poppety in the Fall) was nominated for animation.
In comedy, Out There with Melissa DiMarco received a nod, while Frantic Films’ Pitchin’ In was nominated in lifestyle and information programs and Un air de famille (Family Harmony) was tapped in music and variety programs. Proper’s Redemption Inc. received a nomination in reality programs.
Zoot Pictures’ Shattered Ground and CBC’s The Nature of Things – Andean Adventure received nods in Environmental and Wildlife Programs, while the CBC’s The War of 1812 was nominated for history & biography. And Afghanistan – The Price of Revenge from Point du Jour was tapped in investigative and current affairs programs, and The Age of Anxiety received a nod for social and humanitarian documentaries.
In interactive, Temple Street’s Recipe to Riches received a nod for best branded entertainment, while Attraction Images’ Emilie was tapped for cross-platform fiction. Secret Location was also nominated in the category for IFC.com’s Portlandia in the U.S.
Canucks swept the interactive cross-platform non-fiction program. The NFB’s Here at Home, Fathom Film Group’s The Defector: Escape from North Korea Interactive Experience, and Canada-France copro WebGeol were all nominated. And Secret Location was tapped for PBS.org’s Targeting the Electorate: How Are You Being Targeted? in the U.S.
In fictional web series, Prison Dancer and Secret Location’s What are the Sevens? are in competition against Crackle’s Chosen and BBC Three’s Dawson Bros. Funtime.
Canucks netted three of four noms in non-fiction web series, for Travel + Escape’s Beyond Wanderlust – The New Nomads, TV5.ca’s Leaving Kangirsuk and TVO’s The Elected.
And in arts and performing arts, White Pine Pictures’ West Wind: The Vision of Tom Thomson received a nomination, while Aetios Productions Inc.’s 30 Vies (30 Lives) was nominated in soaps and telenovas.
