Principal photography is underway on Mohawk Girls, produced by Quebec-based Rezolution Pictures in association with APTN and Omni Television.

The seven-episode half-hour dramedy follows four twenty-somethings as they explore family pressure, traditions and relationships as modern day Mohawk women.

Mohawk Girls stars Jenny Pudavick and newcomers Maika Harper, Brittany LeBorgne and Heather White as the main characters. The series also stars Kyle Nobess, Meegwun Fairbrother and Glen Gould, along with Christian Campbell, Rachelle White Wind and Ashley Michaels.

The series is directed by Tracey Deer, and is inspired by Deer’s 2005 feature-length doc of the same name about teenage girls growing up on the Kahnawake Mohawk reserve.

Cynthia Knight is showrunner, and Deer, Catherine Bainbridge, Christina Fon, Linda Ludwick and Ernest Webb are executive producing.

Mohawk Girls is filming both in Montreal and the Kahnawake Mohawk Territory in Quebec.

Mohawk Girls, slated to premiere in 2014, will air in English on APTN and OMNI Television, in Mandarin on OMNI, and in Mohawk on APTN.
