The little series that could continues to sell overseas, following pickups and renewals of Sanctuary. The first season of the green-screen sci-fi from B.C. will air in Russia and France, following sales to TV3 and NRJ 12 respectively. Its entire run is also headed to Central Europe via AXN and through Sci-Fi channels in Asia, Australia and Europe, according to distributor Tricon Films & Distribution.
The Toronto shop has also passed the world home video distribution rights to E1 Entertainment. Season two of the series is currently in prep and due to air on Sci-Fi in the U.S. and in Canada on Space.
‘Sanctuary appeals to a much broader audience than traditional sci-fi might but doesn’t alienate the core fans of the genre,’ said Tricon VP Carrie Mudd in a statement. ‘The green screen technology and visual effects are truly remarkable but it’s the storytelling that makes this series so compelling.’
The series started out on the web and employs many of the cast and crew from the Stargate franchise. Amanda Tapping (Stargate SG-1) stars with Robin Dunne (Dawson’s Creek), Emilie Ullerup (jPod), Christopher Heyerdahl (Stargate Atlantis) and Ryan Robbins (Battlestar Galactica). Martin Wood directs, working with creator and writer Damian Kindler.
