Vallée sails with Franklin picture

Jean-Marc Vallée has found his next project, and will co-adapt the novel Du bon usage des étoiles (Proper Use of the Stars) for the big screen and his Crazy Films. The Montreal company has picked up the film rights to the 2008 novel, which recounts the famous, doomed and famously doomed Franklin Expedition — a failed effort, launched in 1848, to navigate the Northwest Passage.

Vallée (C.R.A.Z.Y.) and first-time author Dominique Fortier will rework the French-language novel for the big screen. Vallée earlier this month saw his historical biopic The Young Victoria debut in the U.K. The story of England’s Elizabeth I, produced by Martin Scorsese and former British royal Sarah Ferguson among others, will roll out across Europe this spring.
