Yannick Bisson, the lead talent on CBC hit Murdoch Mysteries, has been named to the lead position on new kids TV property The Adventures of Napkin Man.
The news was announced at MIPTV. The TV series, from Little Airplane Productions and Breakthrough Entertainment, was first unveiled last October. The CBC is helping to develop the 13 by 30-minute series, which combines live action and animation. It will also distribute the program internationally. Little Airplane will handle U.S. distribution.
Animation studio Little Tugboat Productions will render animation services on the series.
Bisson takes the role of Mister Anthony, a preschool teacher who draws a superhero named Napkin Man for his students – a character who magically comes to life in an animated world to help young children better understand and manage their feelings.
Production on the series begins this month in Toronto, for a September premiere date.
Bisson plays the titular character on the period Canadian detective series from Shaftesbury.
