Nelvana and Michael Eisner pact on superhero cartoon

Former Disney CEO Michael Eisner is going into the animatred superheroes business with Nelvana.

Corus Entertainment’s Nelvana Enterprises and The Topps Company, the trading cards maker acquired by Eisner’s Tornante Co. in 2007,  are to develop the boys action series Mysticons.

The 26 half-hour animated series for kids six to 11 years will be produced by Nelvana Studio and written by kids series writer Sean Jara.

“We are thrilled to work with Corus Entertainment a globally renowned children’s broadcaster and producer,” said Eisner in a statement Monday, timed to coincide with the start of MIPTV in Cannes.

The animated series follows four regular kids called into action to double as superheroes known as Mysticons.

“We’re excited to be partnering with The Topps Company on a multi-platform series that has all the ingredients for success, including compelling characters and exciting stories,” said Doug Murphy, president of Corus Television, in his own statement.
