The Canadian Johnny Cash documentary My Father and The Man In Black is to play the Memphis International Film and Music Fest on April 26, ahead of a U.K. release this summer, according to indie producer New Chapter Productions.
The film by Jonathan Holiff looks at the relationship between Johnny Cash and his long-time manager Saul Holiff, who is also the filmmaker’s late father.
The Memphis festival will screen the film on Apr. 26, ahead of the British theatrical release by Ballpark Film Distributors.
The film features newly-discovered audio diaries and telephone calls recorded by Holiff and Canadian-born Cash in the 1960s and 1970s.
Jonathan Holiff was estranged from his father for two decades before Cash’s troubled manager committed suicide in 2005.
Hollif Sr. didn’t leave a suicide note, but his son did find a storage locker full of hidden treasures that underpin the documentary.
