Just three weeks and change after arriving in theaters, One Week has brought in $1 million at the box office, according to distributor Mongrel Media.
‘It is extremely gratifying to see how Canadians have embraced this love letter to the country. One Week is a uniquely Canadian film that speaks to us,’ said Mongrel boss Hussain Amarshi in a statement. ‘Its success shows how important it is for us to make films that tell our stories.’
The film, which stars Joshua Jackson as a terminally ill man on a cross-country motorcycle trek, marked the biggest release ever for the boutique distributor when it arrived on March 6, opposite Watchmen, on 60 screens. It shot on location across the country — including stops at oddball roadside attractions — and features music by indie Canucks including Sam Roberts and Great Lake Swimmers.
‘I’ve always felt One Week has led a very charmed life,’ added director Michael McGowan. One Week is still playing on 37 screens across the country.
