Alien Mysteries lands in U.S., international markets

U.S. broadcaster Destination America has acquired the exclusive American broadcast rights to Discovery Canada’s Alien Mysteries.

Destination America acquired all media rights from Discovery Canada’s distribution unit Exploration Distribution Inc., including cable TV, internet and mobile.

EDI also licensed the series to Discovery Networks internationally. In addition to the earlier pre-sale to the U.K., the series has been picked up in Italy and the Europe/Middle East/Asia market.

Alien Mysteries chronicles first-person accounts of alien encounters and UFO sightings. The series features dramatic re-enactments and the use of CGI and green screen technology created by Toronto-based Acme Digital Pictures to present the experiences. Scientists and researchers also explore how the encounters could be possible.

The two-hour premiere of Alien Mysteries on Discovery Canada reached 1.54 million Canadians (P2+), according to data from BBM Canada.

The series is produced by Exploration Production Inc. in association with Discovery Canada. Karen McCairley is executive producer of Alien Mysteries.
