The long and short of it is Astral’s Harold Greenberg Fund is relaunching its shorts-to-features program.
The former Short film Program has been renamed to spotlight the connection between shorts and features.
The Harold Greenberg Fund has injected an additional $10,000 into script development funding, and the program also has new funding from new partner Movie Central, and potential financial support from provincial agencies and production service providers.
That comes on top of existing support from The Movie Network.
In all, three prizes of $30,000 are available, comprised of a contribution from the Harold Greenberg Fund and pay-tv broadcast licence fees from TMN and Movie Central.
The $10,000 in script development funding from the Harold Greenberg Fund is to be used as a loan towards the feature film project associated with the short.
“Last year’s inaugural Short Film Program was a huge hit and we received nearly 200 applications to support the next generation of Canadian feature filmmakers through an emphasis on helping create a short that will act as a calling card,” said the fund’s English-language program president John Galway. “We made the effort this year to enhance the resources available to the filmmaking teams,” he added.
Last year’s short film program winners were Honor Code, Little Pig and Supernova.
Full guidelines for the program are available on Astral’s website.
