The National Screen Institute has announced four teams for its NSI drama prize short film training course.

The course provides filmmakers with $10,000 cash and up to $25,000 in services towards development and production of a short film.

Given Your History, produced by Laura Perlmutter and written and directed by Molly McGlynn (Toronto); Mine, produced by Inga Dievulyte and written and directed by Gerald Patrick Fantone (Toronto); Some Things Won’t Sleep, produced by Andre Pettigrew and written and directed by Leah Johnson (Truro, NS); and The Underground, produced by Kerry Swanson and written and directed by Michelle  Latimer (Toronto and Hamilton) have all been selected.

The teams will receive writing, directing and producing training in Winnipeg, and will be mentored through the various filmmaking stages over the next year in their home communities.

“We’re so pleased with the successes Barefoot (pictured) and When You Sleep have had,” NSI Drama Prize manager Elise Swehorne said in a statement, of two recent NSI Drama Prize films which screened at TIFF last year and were featured in Telefilm’s Not Short on Talent program at the 2012 Cannes Film Market. “We hope to continue that momentum and help these new teams hone and perfect their projects to create beautiful films,” she added.

The drama prize faculty includes Swehorne, adviser and director facilitator Sean Garrity, writer facilitator Shereen Jerrett and producer facilitator Brendon Sawatzky.
