Available Light film fest screens Yukon Gold world premiere

History Television’s upcoming factual series Yukon Gold, from Paperny Entertainment, had its world premiere on Tuesday at the Yukon’s Available Light Film Festival.

Exec producer David Paperny first showcased the idea for the series last year at the ALFF Media Industry Forum.

Paperny presented a case study of the series at this year’s forum, which runs to Feb. 6 and also includes pitch sessions, round table discussions, the Fire Hall Film Talks series and a documentary master class with Peter Mettler on Thursday.

And as part of the Presenting the Yukoners Pitch Session on Tuesday, five Yukon filmmakers presented 20-minute film pitches, while participants in the Yukon’s Factual Series Development program put forth concepts for their reality-based TV shows.

Also screening at the festival, which runs to Feb. 10, are Sarah Polley’s Stories We Tell, Deepa Mehta’s Midnight’s Children, Andy Keen’s Bobcaygeon and Jonathan Demme’s Neil Young Journeys.

Two Yukon-produced films made for broadcast, Lulu Keating’s Lucille’s Ball (to air on Super Channel) and Werner Walcher’s Cold Paradise (commissioned by Omni Television) will also screen at the ALFF.
