Rose heads for the Hills

Gabrielle Rose has been cast in the feature Hungry Hills, now shooting in Saskatchewan under director Rob King (Rabbit Fall, Moccasin Flats).

The Vancouver thesp will play an aunt to the young narrator, Snit Mandolin, portrayed by Kier Gilchrist (United States of Tara). The film is based on the novel by playwright George Ryga (The Ecstasy of Rita Joe) about growing up in depression-ravaged Alberta in the 1930s. It started last month in Regina.

Rose (Robson Arms, Eureka) is currently on screen in Carl Bessai’s comedy drama Mothers & Daughters, in theatres via Kinosmith Films.

Hungry Hills is produced by King, Rhonda Baker (Ticket Out, The Messengers), Avi Federgreen (One Week, High Life) and Gary Fisher, who also adapted the screenplay. Jennifer Jonas (Leslie, All Hat) and Leonard Farlinger (Monkey Warfare, The Perfect Son) of Toronto’s New Real Films are executive producers.
