Clutch, a web series from mojoPro Films, and Cybergeddon, by Aircraft Pictures, both Toronto-based companies, have been nominated for the third annual Streamy Awards.

The nominees in the awards that recognize achievement in online screen entertainment, news and non-fiction programming, were announced earlier this week. They will be handed out in Los Angeles Feb. 13.

Nominated in the competitive best action or sci fi series category, Clutch is up against studio-produced H+ The Digital Series, DR0NE, Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, and Bite Me.

“It is a big win for the independents,” series creator Jonathan Robbins said in a statement, adding “to stand on the same ground as series being produced with so many more zeroes in their budget.”

Meanwhile, actor Missy Peregrym (Rookie Blue) has been nominated in the best female performance, drama, category for her role on Cybergeddon.

She is up against Rachael Hip-Flores, for her work in Anyone But Me, Troian Bellisario for Lauren, Alison Haislip for Battleground and Anna Popplewell for Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn.

Her colleague Olivier Martinez is up for best male performance, drama.

Cybergeddon, a nine-part cybercrime web series which debuted on Yahoo Screen, is up for two other prizes, one each in the categories of best ensemble cast and best branded entertainment series.

In the cast category it is up against Burning Love, Epic Meal Time, The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, and Video Game High School. In the branded category the competitors are: Chasing with Steve Aoki, Cliffsnotes Films, Leap Year and Stories of Inclusive Innovation.
