Women in Film and Television – Toronto held its 25th anniversary Crystal Awards gala luncheon on Tuesday at the Arcadian Court in downtown Toronto.
The awards promote and celebrate the achievements of Canadian men and women in screen-based media.
Hosted by Jeanne Beker, this year’s Crystal Award winners were:
Creative Excellence Award: Tara Ellis, senior director of original drama content at Shaw Media
Mentorship Award: Susan Ross, ISM Access consultant and partner
Outstanding Achievement Award: Anne Marie La Traverse, Pink Sky Entertainment president
Special Jury Award of Distinction: Mary Ellen Carlyle, senior VP and general manager, Dome Productions
International Achievement Award: Sarah Gadon, actress
The event also acknowledged two recent industry mentorship winners.
Jenny Hacker, CBC head of scripted primetime, awarded Kerry Ball with the CBC Business of Broadcasting Mentorship. And Picture Box partner Kate Sanagan awarded Crystal Van Pelt with the inaugural Picture Box Television Distribution Mentorship, while Kodak Canada Entertainment Imaging division account manager Rhonda Lockwood presented Simonee Chichester with the WIFT-T Kodak New Vision Mentorship.
Throughout the event, the Twitter-verse was abuzz with messages calling the luncheon “inspiring” and expressing pride in the powerhouses – award-winners, presenters and industry professionals – who were in attendance.
