Corus Entertainment and the National Screen Institute announced the five projects selected for the inaugural Script to Screen program on Friday at the Whistler Film Festival.
The selected projects are as follows:
“We were overwhelmed with the quality of Canadian talent that submitted projects, and, as we hoped, Script to Screen is connecting with fresh voices in the film community. With the NSI, we look forward to providing support and guidance to the selected projects and creating fully formed scripts ready for packaging.”
The Script to Screen program, a partnership with Corus’ Western Canada pay TV service Movie Central and the NSI, will provide Canadian screenwriters with funding, creative support and Movie Central’s expertise to develop their feature film concepts to production-ready scripts with market viability.
The initiative, which provides the five screenwriter finalists with a development advance of $50,000, was first announced in June.
And as part of the program, Movie Central will be granted first right of negotiation for any production based on part or all of a script funded through the Script to Screen Program.
