Michael Polis exits DHX Media-owned Wildbrain Entertainment

Michael Polis has left his positions as president of DHX Media-owned Wildbrain Entertainment and EVP of branded entertainment and consumer products at DHX Media after nearly six years at Los Angeles-based Wildbrain.

However, he will continue to work with Halifax-based DHX on growing the transmedia kids IP UMIGO, a project he created.

DHX Media confirmed his departure. A follow-up interview with Polis revealed that his new role as an independent would be non-exclusive.

Multi-platform property UMIGO, which targets kids six to eight, features fun applications of science, technology and math. After Wildbrain, in partnership with New York’s Michael Cohen Group and Chicago’s WTTW, recently secured a five-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Ready to Learn initiative, plans are being made to expand UMIGO across TV, mobile, publishing and real-world games and consumer products.

During his time as president of Wildbrain, Polis helped lead the company’s expansion of original family entertainment and was instrumental in the success of breakout hit Yo Gabba Gabba! as a television series, live stage show and consumer products program.

A DHX spokesperson said the company will not be replacing Polis.
