Canadian distributor D Films has acquired the Canadian rights to Blancanieves, Spain’s contender in the best foreign language category at the upcoming Academy Awards.
The film by director/writer Pablo Berger bowed at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival, before picking up awards at San Sebastian.
Produced by Arcadia Motion Pictures, Blancanieves stars Maribel Verdú and Daniel Giménez Cacho and updates the tale of Snow White to 1920s Spain, where a young girl escapes from her wicked stepmother to find fame as a matador.
The deal was negotiated by D Films’ Michael Robson and Dreamcatchers’ international sales agent Marina Fuentes Arredonda.
