Toronto-based Enriching Pictures has locked in a co-production agreement with Seven Arts Filmed Entertainment Louisiana on Thomasina, a film based on a kids novel of the same name.

Shooting in the bayou of Louisiana will begin March 1, 2013, with post-production being completed in New Orleans, David Borg, the president of Enriching Pictures, tells Playback.

Borg’s credits include Supercross, Red Riding Hood and Hansel & Gretel.

The 1957 book Thomasina: The Cat Who Thought She was God was penned by Paul Gallico. In 1963 Disney released The Three Lives of Thomasina, which was also based on the book but was set in the Scottish highlands.

Thomasina is to be directed by Peter Hewitt (Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, Garfield: The Movie) based on a script by Jim Hart (Hook, Bram Stoker’s Dracula).

Also involved with the project are producers Peter McAlevey (Body and Soul, Shadow Hours), Ensemble Entertainment’s John Brown and Marcy Gold and George Taweel (Touched by an Angel).
