Soska twins’ pic continues winning ways on fest circuit

The Canadian horror/thriller American Mary continued its winning ways at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival, picking up six trophies, including best Canadian feature.

The indie pic from Vancouver twins Jen and Sylvia Soska also won for best director, best genre screenplay, best leading actress for Katherine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps), and best cinematography.

Isabelle also won for best anti-hero, while the body mod horror romp from Vancouver producer IndustryWorks also won for most disturbing film.

American Mary had its Canadian premiere at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival, and will also feature in a late night horror sidebar at the Whistler Film Festival.

The Canadian pic had earlier trophy hauls at recent genre festival’s like Screamfest 2012 and FantasticFest.

Other multiple award winners in Toronto included Matthias Hoene’s British comedy Cockneys vs. Zombies winning the top audience award for best feature, followed by the Japanese splatter film Dead Sushi in the runner-up position.

And Claron Foy’s Citadel was named best horror film.
