MIPCOM12: Attendance up this year but still below 2008 peak

According to MIPCOM organizers Reed MIDEM, some 12,900 delegates from 104 countries made their way to the market this year, up slightly from approximately 12,500 delegates in 2011.

During a press conference to announce the attendance figures, Reed MIDEM television division director Laurine Garaude noted the market had seen record attendance numbers in 2008 of close to 14,000 participants, and those numbers dipped the following year to just over 12,000.

Organizers say the number of buyers was 4,400, with over 500 of those buyers in the business of acquiring VOD content.

The number of companies attending from Latin America rose 36%, while the number of companies attending from China climbed 30%.

More American companies were also on hand at this year’s MIPCOM, with numbers up by 11%. Canada, this year’s “country of honor” for the market, was represented by 252 companies, an increase of 11% from last year.

MIP Junior, the kids content-focused component of the October market, notched up an increase in attendance of 9%.
