Joel Surnow, Robert Moresco lead L.A. bootcamp for RTA students

Mentors lined up for Ryerson University’s Hollywood bootcamp later this month include 24 showrunner Joel Surnow and Oscar-winners Robert Moresco and Cathy Schulman.

The RTA School of Media has 30 students heading to Los Angeles for a two-week intensive course, in partnership with UCLA, on writing and producing for the U.S. market.

While stateside, the students will meet with industry professionals like Surnow, who also executive produced The Kennedys for Muse Entertainment, and Moresco and Schulman, whose screen credits include the Oscar-winning movie Crash.

Also taking part in lectures and seminars is Tom Nunan, a co-executive producer on the Crash TV series, John Pasquin, who directed the 1994 comedy The Santa Clause shot in southern Ontario, and Joe Russo, a director on Arrested Development, Community and Happy Endings.

Rounding out the lineup of RTA mentors is David Gale, executive vice president of MTVX at MTV Networks, and Barbara Boyle, a film producer on Cinema Paradiso and My Left Foot.

“RTA is educating media leaders for a global market. This course and the exposure it will provide to the U.S. industry will help demystify the L.A. scene,” Charles Falzon, chair of the RTA School of Media at Ryerson, said in a statement.
