Fox International Channels has acquired the Canadian drama Copper for 53 world markets.

Fox International Channels has an agreement from Cineflix Studios to become the exclusive first window pay-TV broadcaster of the immigrant drama in Australia, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Africa and Latin America.

The licensing deal is similar to the one the division of Fox Entertainment has for other Canadian dramas like The Listener and The Walking Dead.

Copper, set in 1860s New York City, portrays an Irish-immigrant cop working the city’s notorious five points neighborhood.

The series, set to bow on BBC America and Showcase in Canada later this month, was created by Tom Fontana and Will Rokos, and is executive produced by Barry Levinson.

Tom Weston-Jones, Franka Potente, Kyle Schmid, and Anastasia Griffith lead the ensemble cast.

“Being BBC America’s first scripted commission and Cineflix Studios’ first scripted order, Copper was always going to be special. But having the fantastic talents of Tom Fontana and Barry Levinson on board too gives Copper an extra layer of polish and sparkle,” Jason Simms, senior vice-president of global acquisitions at FIC, said in a statement Monday.
