Veteran Canadian TV exec Shanna Albert is headed to TV handyman Mike Holme’s new production shingle, Point Load Pictures, as she jumps from Peace Point Entertainment where she was head of development for three years.
As vice president of development at the joint venture between Holmes and president Peter Kettlewell, Albert explained her new role will be to develop and produce new series outside of the Holmes Group brand.
An example: Point Load is developing Big Food, which is about cooking huge, such as Los Angeles’ Staples Centre arena needing to feed 60,000 fans for a rock concert one evening that follows a football or baseball game earlier that afternoon.
“I was immediately impressed by their development slate of original U.S. and Canadian content, along with fascinating access to American A-list talent and digital comedy content,” Albert told Playback.
She brings long-time experience as a TV producer, most recently with Peace Point where her credits included Bake With Anna Olson and Keasha’s Perfect Dress, set in a bustling bridal salon.
Point Load Pictures also has on the drawing board The Finisher, hosted by Portland, Oregon-based Frank McGinness, a professional wood finisher, and The Demo Diva, about Simone Bruni, who runs a commercial demolition company in New Orleans.
The strategy is to diversify away from the Mike Holmes series template like Holmes on Homes and Holmes Inspection, which are ratings winners on the U.S.-based HGTV channel.
Point Load is also at work on a spinoff show hosted by Damon Bennett of Holmes Inspection.
Point Load is represented by William Morris Endeavor in the U.S. and internationally.
