The Whistler Film Festival is set to unveil a new director of programming after veteran programmer Stacey Donen decided not to return for a fourth year as artistic director.

Donen joined the Whistler festival as artistic director in 2009, while also working as director of programming at The Royal, the Toronto indie cinema and post house.

Earlier, Donen programmed Canadian cinema for the Toronto International Film Festival from 1999 to 2006.

Now Donen will “pursue some other options,” he said Tuesday, while continuing to grow The Royal as a film-going venue.

“I have greatly enjoyed my time with the festival and am immensely grateful for the support of a fantastic staff and to have had the opportunity to develop and grow this great venue for Canadian and international filmmakers,” he added in a statement.

Whistler fest organizers said they will announce Donen’s successor with a new director of programming title on June 21.
