Tom Perlmutter has agreed to a renewed, five-year term as chairperson of the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), and government film commissioner.

Perlmutter has been head of the NFB since 2007.

Prior to that, he was director general of the organization’s English program from 2001 to 2007.

Before that, he worked with a range of Canadian production companies, including Primitive Entertainment, CineNova Productions and Barna-Alper Productions.

“I am pleased to announce that Mr. Perlmutter has agreed to continue to serve with distinction as Head of the National Film Board,” said James Moore, the Canadian government’s minister of Canadian heritage and official languages, in a statement.

“The NFB will continue to benefit from his wealth of experience and leadership. His dedication to the film industry and his commitment to the NFB’s digitization initiative will continue to be highly valuable to the organization,” he added.
