Thunderbird Films has picked up the Canadian distribution rights to Maya the Bee, the 3D cartoon series from Flemish kids TV producer Studio 100.
Vancouver-based Thunderbird will also help Studio 100 with U.S. sales of the 39 half-hours of the CGI animated series.
The Maya the Bee property is based on the German book of the same name now enjoying its 100th anniversary, and has already been made into earlier TV shows and comic book series.
“Maya the Bee is representative of the strongly branded programming that Thunderbird can help bring to the North American marketplace,” Jeffrey Engelen, distribution topper at Thunderbird, said Tuesday in a statement.
The new 3D Maya the Bee series is produced by Studio 100 Animation SAS, in association with TF1 and ZDF.
Directed by Daniel Duda, the CGI series production is based on a writing bible from Delphine Maury and Christophe Erbes, and a graphic bible designed by Jan Van Rijsselberge.
