John Barrack has left the Canadian Media Production Association as its chief operating officer and lead counsel.

A CMPA spokesman on Tuesday confirmed Barrack’s departure “to pursue other opportunities.”

His exit follows CMPA topper Norm Bolen getting set to leave the producers association after the upcoming Banff World Media Festival.

Based in Toronto, Barrack was the top negotiator for the CMPA, which represents major film, TV and new media producers.

His departure follows Barrack leading a national roadshow for indie producers about the Terms of Trade agreement with broadcasters and other labor issues.

Negotiations between the CMPA and the Writers Guild of Canada scheduled for May 7 to 9 have been cancelled, but both sides aim to get back to the bargaining table as soon as possible.
