Flight of the Butterflies 3D wraps shooting

Gordon Pinsent, Patricia Phillips, Shaun Benson and Mexican actress Stephanie Sigman have just wrapped work on Flight of the Butterflies 3D, from large format film producer SK Films and British and Mexican co-production partners. A one-year shoot for the 3D extravaganza ended last week, ahead of a September 2012 bow on Imax screens.

The big-screen film about the monarch butterfly was shot on location in Toronto, the U.S. and Mexico, along the insect’s annual migration route.

The last day of filming by the 3D film crew took place at a monarch butterfly sanctuary in Mexico, which helped finance the project.

Flight of the Butterflies is structured as a Canada-UK-Mexico co-production involving veteran 3D producer Jonathan Barker of SK Films, with Brit Mike Slee directing and writing with co-writer Wendy MacKeigan, and Rafael Cuervo, a Mexican co-producer with Slee.

The production team earlier shot the award-winning big-screen film Bugs! A Rainforest Adventure.

The 3D movie’s narrative is wrapped around the life work of scientist Dr. Fred Urquhart, played by Pinsent.
