TIFF hires Chris Kennedy to run The Free Screen

The Toronto International Film Festival has hired Chris Kennedy to give it away for free.

Kennedy is the new programmer for The Free Screen, TIFF Cinematheque’s free series of experimental works for film audiences.

He joins TIFF’s programming team after working at Toronto’s Pleasure Dome for six years.

Kennedy also did a programming stint at the Images Festival, and was a guest curator for the New Nothing Cinema and the San Francisco Cinematheque.

His films have been shown in many national and international film festivals, including Media City, the Berlin International Film Festival and the Hong Kong International Film Festival.

Kennedy’s first free film showcase from March 21 will be a salute to veteran Canadian video artist Jan Peacock.

Then, on April 11, The Free Screen and the Images Festival will present the Toronto premiere of American collage-artist and filmmaker Lewis Klahr’s The Pettifogger.
