Inside Out, the producer of Toronto and Ottawa’s annual LGBT Film Festivals, has appointed Halifax’s Andrew Murphy as director of programming.
Previously, Murphy worked for 12 years as programming manager for the Halifax-based Atlantic Film Festival, during which time he established and built programming for ViewFinders: International Film Festival for Youth, and the AFF’s LGBT and Midnight programs, That’s So Gay and The Late Shift. He will also continue to deliver key programming for the 32nd annual AFF Galas and Special Presentations lineups.
“Andrew’s experience on the international film festival circuit and strong artistic vision will be a huge asset to Inside Out as we solidify our position on the world stage as an important showcase for the best LGBT film,” said Inside Out executive director Scott Ferguson in a statement.
“Now 22 years strong, I plan to build on Inside Out’s fantastic reputation for bringing the world of Queer Cinema home to Toronto, exploring ‘queer’ across borders and hemispheres, celebrating camaraderie from abroad and within our own Canadian LGBT communities through the art of good storytelling,” Murphy said in a statement.
The Toronto LGBT Film Festival takes place May 17 to 27, with primary screenings held at the TIFF Bell Lightbox, and the Ottawa LGBT Film Festival runs Nov. 15 to 18 at the National Gallery of Canada.
Inside Out is a Toronto-based non-profit that promotes, produces and exhibits film and video made by the LGBT community from Canada and worldwide.
