U.S. and U.K. producers focus of Strategic Partners 2012

The Atlantic Film Festival’s Strategic Partners conference is taking notice as Canadian and other foreign producers attempt more U.S. co-ventures to catch an American audience.

The Halifax-based co-production gathering has given the U.S. and the UK the spotlight at Strategic Partners 2012.

That’s the third year running that the U.S. becomes a focus nation for the Canadian co-production market as foreign producers use partnerships with Los Angeles players to get their projects financed.

“We have always had strong representation from these two regions at Strategic Partners, so engaging them as spotlight countries, and emphasizing the potential for co-venture/co-production between the U.K., the U.S.A., Canada, and the rest of the world, makes perfect sense,” Strategic Partners director Jan Miller told Playback Daily.

The 15th edition of the co-production conference, to run from Sept. 13 to 16, will bring producers, distributors, broadcasters and agents together to network on potential future projects or fill out financing for existing scripts.
