Montreal-based VVS Films has been making moves in the Sundance market, acquiring all Canadian rights to the new Richard Gere starrer, Arbitrage.

The distributor announced the acquisition Friday following the film’s world premiere at Sundance, which earned critical praise and comparisons to last year’s Sundance hit, Margin Call. Going into the festival without a U.S. distributor, the film was also picked up by Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions for the U.S. market, reportedly for over $2 million.

The VVS Films deal was negotiated by Ernie Grivakis and Harry Grivakis for VVS Films, with Graham Taylor of WME Global, and Lisa Wilson of Parlay Films.

Arbitrage, directed by Nicholas Jarecki, is a fictional account of a Wall Street hedge fund manager trying to maintain control of his life as it unravels around him. The film, slated for a late 2012 release, is Jarecki’s first feature.
