The earnings parade at Canadian cablecasters continued Thursday with Cogeco Inc. with sharply higher profits and revenue.

The Montreal-based cable operator posted first quarter earnings up 20% to $47.9 million,  against a year-earlier $39.8 million, on revenue up 13.4% to $387.5 million.

The cable and internet businesses accounted for $356.9 million of the revenues at Cogeco, Canada’s fourth-largest cable operator.

Cogeco added 45,129 new cable TV, high-speed internet access and phone subscriberss during the latest quarter to Nov. 30, 2011, or 1.8% higher to just over 2.6 million customers in all.
