Survivorman to return to OLN

Canadian specialty network OLN has begun production on four Survivorman specials set to air in the summer of 2012.

The four specials will see survival expert Les Stroud filming his latest adventure, where he must find his own food, water and shelter in the wild, over the course of 10 days. He only has his trusty multi-tool and camera equipment as he sets out on this dangerous journey.

“I will up the ante by staying out for 10 full days, which by any survival standard is intense and difficult,” Stroud told realscreen.

Survivorman was the first of its kind starting in 2001 and eventually launching an entire genre of ‘survival tv’ but I have always stayed true to the core values of the format,” he added. “Still no camera crew, still no acting out survival scenarios. I will go through what I must for ‘real’ and film it all myself.”

The specials are commissioned by OLN’s original content team and produced by SMTEN.

Survivorman and Les Stroud Beyond Survival have been fan favorites and marquee series on OLN for seven years,” said Claire Freeland, director of development and production, Rogers Media Television. “We are looking forward to working with Les again, bringing viewers new, rugged and extreme adventures.”

The Survivorman series has aired on Discovery Channel and Science in the U.S.
