Veteran Canadian stage and screen actor John Neville died on the weekend, aged 86 years.
Neville, best known for his star-turn in Terry Gilliam’s The Adventures of Baron Munchausen and a recurring role in the The X-Files, passed away at Toronto’s Wellesley Central Place on Saturday after a long bout with Alzheimer’s disease, the Stratford Shakespeare Festival said in a statement.
“John Neville was a superb actor, an outstanding director and a terrific artistic leader of our festival,” Stratford artistic director Des McAnuff said in a statement.
Neville worked as an artistic director at Stratford in the 1980s.
His film and TV credits included the CTV legal drama The Eleventh Hour, the TV movie Escape From The Newsroom and the TV dramas Amazon and Emily of New Moon.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Caroline, six children and six grandchildren.
