Shaftesbury Films shooting National Ballet documentary for the CBC

Shaftesbury Films is producing a one-hour documentary on the National Ballet of Canada for CBC Television, timed to coincide with the cultural institution’s 60th anniversary.

Romeos & Juliets is written, directed and produced by Moze Mossanen (Nureyev), and captures the run-up to the world premiere of the ballet company’s Romeo and Juliet production later this month.

Production on the TV special is continuing through December 2011, with the CBC scheduling a spring 2012 premiere. It will include behind-the-scene coverage of dancers going through rehearsals ahead of opening night.

Romeos & Juliets has financing from the Canada Media Fund and federal and provincial tax credits and is being executive produced by Christina Jennings and Scott Garvie, with Jan Peter Meyboom serving as supervising producer.

The Shaftesbury Sales Company will shop Romeos & Juliets internationally.
