Laszlo Barna’s production shingle, Pier 21 Films, is launching a factual division with Janice Tufford of Tuff Productions.

Barna, who left Entertainment One in January 2011 with a first-look deal in hand, aims at creating reality and documentary programming for Canadian and international markets.

Barna and Tufford earlier coproduced the theatrical documentary Force of Nature: The David Suzuki Movie, the CBC’s Who Do You Think You Are, Party Mamas for Slice, Outlaw Bikers for History Television and Mega Builders for Discovery.

Tufford will oversee Pier 21 Films’ factual division.

Barna in 2008 sold the former Barna Alper Productions to Entertainment One, becoming president of its TV division, with production credits like MTV’s Skins, CTV/CBS’ The Bridge and the CBC’s Keep Your Head Up Kid: The Don Cherry Story.
