Canadians at work on Jurassic Park and Resident Evil games

Canadian digital producers continue making a tidy business with movie-to-video-game adaptations.

Montreal-based Ludia Inc. has inked a worldwide licensing and distribution agreement with Universal Studios Licensing to make and release a social game based on the Jurassic Park movie franchise.

Ludia intends to launch the game, which enables Jurassic Park fans to make their own dinosaur-filled world on the mysterious Isla Nublar, across mobile platforms and social networks internationally.

“This exciting licence is our gateway to the movie industry and reinforces our strategy of turning high-profile brands into successful interactive entertainment experiences,” Ludia CEO Alex Thabet said in a statement.

The first Jurassic Park game is due out on mobile platforms from early 2012.

And Vancouver-based Slant Six Games is working with Capcom to develop a third-person shooter game based on the Resident Evil film franchise.

The Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City game is set in the Resident Evil zombie universe, and is set for gameplay on the Xbox 360, PlayStation3 and PC platforms.

The latest Resident Evil game comes as Davis Films/Impact Pictures and Constantin Film International continue shooting Resident Evil: Retribution, the fifth installment of the movie franchise, in Toronto.
