The Banff World Media Festival’s Rockies Awards has added a documentary category for environmental and wildlife shows that explore the natural world.
And the 2012 edition of the Banff World Media Awards has also introduced in the children and youth category a competition for animation that focuses on kids programming, while primetime animation aimed at adult audiences will contend in the entertainment, drama and interactive programming categories.
The changes were unveiled as festival organizers issued a call for entries for its upcoming Banff World Media Awards in June.
The decision to expand existing categories and fold the digital media awards gala into the Rockies’ gala aims to help Banff keep pace with international market trends.
“The Banff World Media Awards are now, more than ever, a reflection of the new trends in international programming,” Georges Leclere, director of the Banff World Media Awards program competition, said in a statement.
