HBO Canada and eOne at work on The Educated Pervert

More Canadian TV voices in the wings: ex-CBC radio host and comedy writer Jesse Brown is developing with HBO Canada and Entertainment One Television a half-hour comedy, The Educated Pervert.

And Shaw Media is negotiating with Vancouver-based Reunion Pictures for the series Out of Time, created by veteran film/TV screenwriter Simon Barry.

The Educated Pervert, from creators Brown and writer-producer Geoff Siskind, will feature Brown working in public radio on a taxpayer-funded show about lust, while dealing with a more conservative fiancée and his no-holds-barred, ratings-mad producer.

The Movie Network, parent of HBO Canada, and eOne had no comment on the scripted show, now in development.

But it is understood that TMN and Movie Central have ordered two scripts and a bible, with Derek Harvie on board to showrun the project.

Harvie was the executive producer and showrunner on eOne’s Testees sitcom for FX Networks and Showcase in Canada.

eOne’s TV arm, which is also at work on The Firm, Haven and Call Me Fitz, is developing The Educated Pervert in association with Julia Rosenberg’s January Films.

Elsewhere, Vancouver-based Reunion Pictures is close to inking a series pickup from Shaw Media for Out of Time, according to a spokesman for the broadcaster.

The drama is executive produced by Jeff King (Shattered), Tom Rowe and Pat Williams, with Sam Egan (The Listener, Sanctuary) on board as a creative consultant.

Series creator Barry (The Art of War, Deep Blue Sea), divides his time between Vancouver and Los Angeles, is represented by the Gersh Agency in the U.S. and by Great North Artists Management in Canada.
