DirecTV acquires Less Than Kind for stateside run

The HBO Canada comedy Less Than Kind has landed with DirecTV stateside.

Three seasons of the Winnipeg-based sitcom from Breakthrough Entertainment and Buffalo Gal Pictures is to debut on DirecTV’s Audience Network, alongside another Canadian comedy, Call Me Fitz, which stars Jason Priestley.

The sale to DirecTV was brokered by UTA, on behalf of Breakthrough Entertainment.

Less Than Kind debuted on Citytv in fall 2008, before shifting to HBO Canada for a third season to bow in January 2012, with Mark McKinney as executive producer.

The series is also executive produced by Ira Levy, Peter Williamson, Phyllis Laing, Marvin Kaye and Chris Sheasgreen.

Kaye and Sheasgreen originally created the series, which stars Jesse Camacho as a teenager growing up in a dysfunctional Jewish family.
