Eco-prize to debut at Planet in Focus fest

Following the announcement of its opening and closing films, the Planet in Focus film fest revealed more details on its prizing initiatives this week.

Environmentally conscious filmmakers looking for more “green” can vie for the inaugural $5,000 Planet in Focus Green Screen Award, sponsored by the Harold Greenberg Fund.

The award and cash prize will be given to a filmmaker or producer who’s gone the extra step to use eco-conscious film production techniques in film or TV, on set or during production.

The winner will be feted during the fest’s Industry Series reception on Oct. 14.

Filmmakers also have the chance to snag $5,500 in development funding and services with the returning competition The Green Pitch, given to the best eco-film idea. Finalists will pitch their projects to a jury of film and TV professionals, and applications are due Sept. 23.

The Planet in Focus Environmental Film Festival takes place in Toronto from Oct. 12 to 16.
