The Directors Guild of Canada announced its 76 nominees for its 10th annual Awards gala in October, with Splice leading the pack with five nods.
The sci-fi feature earned nominations in four categories: Best Direction – Feature Film (Vincenzo Natali), Best Feature Film, Best Production Design – Feature Film (Todd Cherniawsky), Best Picture Editing (Michele Conroy) and Best Sound Editing (David McCallum, David P. Rose, Janice Ierulli, Mark Shnuriwsky, Jill Purdy, Roderick Deogrades).
A number of other projects share four nominations each, including Barney’s Version (Best Direction – Feature Film for Richard J. Lewis, Best Feature Film, Best Production Design – Feature Film for Claude Pare, Best Picture Editing – Feature Film for Susan Shipton) and The Devil’s Teardrop in the Television/Mini-Series category (Best Direction for Norma Bailey, Best Television Movie/Mini-Series, Best Production Design for Doug McCullough and Best Picture Editing for Ron Wisman Sr.).
Meanwhile, Flashpoint and The Tudors tied in the same Television Series categories including Best Television Series – Drama, Best Direction (Kelly Makin for Flashpoint, Jeremy Podeswa for Tudors) and both received dual nods in Best Picture Editing, with Lara Mazur and Christopher Donaldson for Flashpoint and Lisa Grootenboer and Wendy Hallam Martin for Tudors.
The Guild will also be handing out a number of special awards, with Ted Kotcheff receiving the DGC Lifetime Achievement Award, George Mihalka taking home the Don Haldane Distinguished Service Award and Michael Spencer winning the DGC Honourable Life Member Award.
The Gala will be hosted by Jian Ghomeshi and the Awards will be handed out in Toronto on Oct. 29.
