ACTRA ratifies new code for voice work

ACTRA members have voted to ratify the terms of settlement for a new Audio Code, covering voice work by its members across a range of projects.

“Our team of members and staff consulted widely to revamp this Code. We heard from producers, talent agents and voice performers that they wanted a new Audio Code that would be modern, relevant, clear and accessible – and we delivered,” said Ferne Downey, ACTRA national president, in a statement.

The new Code covers voice work across audio products such as audiobooks, podcasts, audio guides and transit messaging. It is a promulgated agreement, in which ACTRA establishes minimum terms and conditions and producers hiring voice actors are asked to sign on.

Highlights of the agreement, according to ACTRA, include easier-to-understand rate charts for pay, updated terms for the digital age, simplified use structures and exclusion for pro bono musical or choral community recordings.

The new terms are effective immediately.
