New Brunswick-based Dream Street Pictures is getting set to start production on a CBC MOW about an East Coast high school basketball team that rebounded to win a provincial championship following a tragedy.
The Phantoms (working title) is being produced by Dream Street in association with CBC, directed by Sudz Sutherland (Guns; Love Sex & Eating the Bones) and written by Andrew Wreggitt (The Don Cherry Story).
Principal photography is set to start this fall in Bathurst and Fredericton and shoot through November 2011. Delivery to CBC is slated for 2012.
Inspired by a true story, The Phantoms follows the story of the Bathurst High School basketball team, which was struck by tragedy in 2008 when seven of the team’s members were killed in a traffic collision while on a road trip. In the year following the accident, the team rebuilt and went on to win the provincial basketball championship.
The film received funding from the Canada Media Fund, the Shaw Rocket Fund, the Cogeco Program Development Fund and the New Brunswick Film Tax Credit.
